Dunder Mifflin hosts a Casino Night in their warehouse for charity. The gambling and alcohol create a festive atmosphere for the staff, while Michael invites two women to be his date, and Jim makes a bold move to express his feelings to Pam.

Dwight finds half of a joint in the parking lot, and since he’s a volunteer sheriff, he takes it upon himself to seek out the pot-smoking culprit. As he investigates, a situation arises that forces Michael to borrow something very personal from Dwight. Meanwhile, Pam puts a jinx on Jim, and he cannot speak.

Michael’s birthday arrives, but everyone ignores his special day because they’re more concerned about poor Kevin, who’s anxiously awaiting his medical test results. Pam and Jim sneak out to the store to purchase some party supplies, and the staff takes a trip to the local ice skating rink.

It’s a crazy day at Dunder Mifflin when several employees bring their children in for “Take Your Daughter to Work Day.” Meredith’s son pushes Dwight’s buttons, Michael forms an unlikely friendship with Toby’s daughter, and Pam tries to get just one kid to like her.

When Dwight must give a speech as the Dunder Mifflin Salesman of the Year, he turns to Michael and Jim for advice on how to overcome his fear of public speaking. The staff battles for control of the office thermostat, and as Pam plans her wedding, Jim plans a vacation away from Scranton.

Michael heads up to a meeting at the Dunder Mifflin corporate offices, and of course since it’s Valentine’s Day, he embarrasses himself and Jan. Back at the Scranton branch, it’s like a typical grade-school Valentine’s Day, complete with gifts and hurt feelings and disappointment.

Jan arrives at the Scranton branch to lead a “women in the workplace” seminar for the ladies of Dunder Mifflin. Michael, upset that he is excluded from this event, leads his own male bonding workshop down in the warehouse.
